I have 3 more that need to be posted, and those will have to come next weekend as it's cram time at school before spring break.

How to Make Your Brand Pop!Recently I experimented with a method to make a more realistic brand. As it happens, it worked! However...I may have forgotten how I did it exactly. So Cole Tiemen from Equus Community volunteered to be my test subject. I've documented my path into madness, and made some recommendations as we go. |
I did this using Photoshop CS4 Extended. You can only use the 3D rig with an Extended version of Photoshop. This tutorial assumes you have already made a brand to use. Take your design, and duplicate it (shown above). You will also want to create a New Layer (shown at Right). There are 3 ways to create a new layer, choose whichever. |
Take the new layer you just made, right click and select Create Clipping Mask. What a Clipping Mask does is prevent you from drawing all over the layer. It will only draw on the layer it is clipped to, and not on the fully transparent areas. If you look below, you should have a Background Layer, 2 copies of your brand, and a transparent clipped layer. The 3 layers you created represent 3 different things in a brand. The bottom layer is the hair that curves up towards the branded skin, giving it a little shadow. The middle layer is the main body of the brand, just made to be a solid color. The top layer, gives the brand texture. |
